My wife is English and we have been married since May, 1997. Our marriage is great, except when it comes to football. She can not understand why in American football, we stop after every play and rest. English football, she explained to me, they never stop and rest, they keep playing. After having her explain to me the English version of football, I figured it out. English football is what we call soccer. When we went to England to visit her brother and his wife, I got the opportunity to actually watch an English football game live. It is quite different than the way we observe our football games. Here are some of the differences I observed:1. No Seats - Almost half the spectators stood during the whole game. There were no seats provided nor did people bring there own chairs to sit in. So for the whole game, I stood.
2. No Women - I did not see one woman as we entered the stadium, as we watched the game, nor did I see one when we exited the stadium.
3. Visitors Separated - One of the big things I noticed was they separated the visitor spectators from the home visitors by a chain link fence. Even at the end of the game the visitor were allowed out of the stadium first. Once they were gone, the home visitors were allowed to exit the stadium.
4. No Concession Stands - I did not see anyone eating a hot dog, having fish and chips, or drinking beer. There were no concession stands that I could observe.
This is my observation from one English football game. So this should not be taken as the norm, unless we get a larger sample size.
